SC Election Coming Up!

by DANNY J. PIANO

The SY 2005-2006 Student Council election will be held a few weeks from now. Although the specific date is yet to be decided (see proposed Election Calendar below), those who are interested to run for elective positions are advised to file their Certificates of Candidacies immediately.

The qualification requirements and guidelines for the election can be found in the Student Election Code and the Student Council Constitution. These documents can be downloaded or printed from this website by just clicking the links just mentioned.

Campaign posters can already be submitted to the Electoral Board while the discussion forum of this website is all set for use by anybody who wants to voice their views and opinions. The board will disseminate election-related information on a regular basis as we get closer to Election Day.

Same poignant questions from years back: Why is it that every student council election in the past seem to come and go with little attention from students? Why the lack of interest? Is it the method of campaigning, if any, too dry or too tame? Are UPEPO students just too busy to care? Is campus politics simply not our cup of tea?

Hopefully, this year, there will be a little more interest in the elections; the electoral board won't have to close the school gate just to force everybody to vote; and hopefully, this year, we will have a more active student council.
